GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a strong regular season finale at the Duke Twilight, graduate student
Brittany Aveni has been named ACC Women's Track Performer of the Week, while freshman
Moorea Mitchell has been named ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Aveni continued her record-breaking outdoor season with three more first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash, 200m and 4x100m relay. Aveni broke her own school record of 11.41 seconds in the 100m set earlier in the season with a time of 11.35 seconds at the Duke Twilight. Her run as part of the 4x100m relay also added her name to the record books again with the fifth fastest time in program history at 44.74 seconds. The Geneva, Ohio native has now won 11 consecutive events and set four school records and takes home her first ACC Performer of the Week nod.
Mitchell earns ACC Women's Field Performer of the Week after taking first place in the women's hammer for the first time in collegiate career. The freshman from Sunnyvale, Calif., recorded a throw of over 50m for the second time, falling just shy of her personal best with a throw of 51.16m (167-10 feet). Mitchell also becomes the first freshman in program history to receive the award.
The sweep also marks the first time two Duke women have ever swept both the track and field honors in a single week.
Aveni is the first Duke track athlete to win this honor in either the indoor and outdoor season and the first Duke woman to win since senior
Michaela Reinhart won on January 29, 2020. Mitchell is the first Duke student-athlete to earn the honor in the outdoor season and is the first since senior
Erin Marsh won ACC Field Performer of the Week on January 27 during the indoor season.
