EUGENE, Ore. – Duke track & field senior
Lauren Hoffman made her debut on the national stage count, advancing to the semifinals of the 400m hurdles in her first U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday evening at Hayward Field.
Hoffman competed in the third of four heats, running a time of 57.88 seconds. The Haymarket, Va., native placed fourth in her heat, missing an automatic qualifying spot but stayed in the running for an at-large berth. The final heat broke her way and Hoffman advanced with the 16th fastest time in the field.
Hoffman tallied the seventh fastest time by a collegian in the opening round, continuing her ascent up the ranks after taking 10th in the NCAA Outdoor Championships and entering that event as the 12th ranked 400m hurdler in the nation.
The school record holder will continue her Olympic pursuit with the 400m hurdles semifinal at 9:19 p.m. ET on Saturday. Hoffman will be one of three Blue Devils to compete on Saturday, as senior
Erin Marsh starts day one of the heptathlon at 4:15 p.m. ET and 2016 graduate
Megan Clark will compete in the pole vault final at 8:40 p.m. ET.
