Â
Aveni adds another honor to a growing list of distinctions, following a record setting season. The Geneva, Ohio native became the first five-time USTFCCCA All-America in women's program history, notching three separate honors in the 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The graduate student rewrote the Blue Devil record books, setting new school records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Aveni won two gold medals and a bronze at the ACC Outdoor Championships to lead the women's team in scoring en route the program's first ACC Championship, running the anchor leg of the winning 4x400m relay.
Â
Brown-Soler joined the Blue Devils from Penn prior to the 2020-21 season and made an instant impact. The Chamblee, Ga., native became an essential part of the 4x100m and 4x400m relay units, helping set school records in both. Brown-Soler took home All-America First Team honors in the 4x400m relay and Second Team in the 4x100m, while winning gold in the 4x400m relay at the ACC Outdoor Championships to secure the Blue Devils' title on the final event of the competition.
Â
Lee was another graduate transfer from Penn who etched his name into the Blue Devil record books during the 2020-21 season. The Indianapolis, Ind., native became a conference champion for the first time, winning the ACC title in the decathlon with a point total of 7,300. Lee became the Blue Devils' first ACC Champion in the decathlon since
Daniel Golubovic in 2017. Lee also broke a 27-year-old Paul Derr Track Facility (NC State) record, originally held by Geoff Bradshaw (7,090) of Cal State Stanislaus. That mark ranked fifth all-time at Duke and earned him an All-ACC First Team honor. Lee was also named to the 2021 All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
Lenihan caps off another strong athletic and academic campaign with a selection to the Academic All-District First Team. The Tarrytown, N.Y., native became the Blue Devils' first four-time All-ACC honoree since John Austin (2008-11) with a second team nod in the javelin this season. Lenihan was also named to the 2021 All-ACC Academic Team.
Â
All four have advanced to the final CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-August.
