DURHAM – Duke track and field graduate student
Aimar Palma Simo has been tabbed the ACC Men's Field Performer of the Week following his exceptional performance at the Duke Invitational this past weekend, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Palma Simo's selection marks the first ACC Performer of the Week selection, men or women, for Duke this season.
Taking part in the men's hammer throw at the Duke Invitational, Palma Simo collected his second event win of the outdoor campaign while besting his previous PR and own school record by nearly five feet. Stepping into the cage for his fifth attempt, Palma Simo launched the hammer 71.48m (234-6 feet) to slot himself atop the field of 27. The Castellon, Spain product's mark currently leads the ACC while ranking 10th nationally.
Duke enters the final stretch of the outdoor track and field regular season beginning with a trip up the road to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Wake Forest Invitational April 19.
