DURHAM, N.C. – Over 30 Blue Devils will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to close out the regular season at the 2013 Virginia Challenge May 10-11; while seven distance runners will make the trip to Princeton, N.J., to race at the 2013 IC4A/ECAC Championships.
2013 IC4A/ECAC Championships:
Sophomore Shaun Thompson, senior Esther Vermeer and junior Ashley Berry will kick Duke off in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, while seniors Madeline Morgan and Ashley Brasovan will represent the Blue Devils in the 5,000 and 10,000 respectively. The evening will close out with juniors Spencer Pecha and Phil Fairleigh in the men's 5,000.
2013 Virginia Challenge:
Several Blue Devils will look to secure their position at the 2013 NCAA East First Round at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. To qualify, an athlete must own one of the top 48 individual marks or top 24 relay marks in the east region.
Some of the student-athletes vying for invitations to the NCAA East First Round include:

- Megan Clark (pole vault), current regional rank: 16
- Justin Amezquita (pole vault), current regional rank: 17
- Emily Mattoon (pole vault), current regional rank: 20
- Erica Brand (discus), current regional rank: 25
- Michal Filipczak (800), current regional rank: 28
- Stephen Boals (shot put), current regional rank: 30
- Stephen Boals (discus), current regional rank: 31
- Elizabeth Kerpon (400), current regional rank: 41
- Nate McClafferty (1,500), current regional rank: 41
- Ian Rock (pole vault), current regional rank: 43
- Anima Banks (1,500), current regional rank: 49
- Michael Foley (hammer throw), current regional rank: 49
- Abby Farley (800), current regional rank: 66
The Virginia Challenge will also feature redshirt junior Curtis Beach and freshman Robert Rohner in the men's decathlon and junior Miray Seward and redshirt freshman Karli Johonnot in the women's heptathlon. Beach finished first in the men's decathlon at the 2013 Texas Relays with a total of 8,011 points, the third best mark in the NCAA this year, while Johonnot finished third and garnered All-ACC honors in the women's heptathlon at the 2013 ACC Championships with a point total of 5,016.
