DURHAM, N.C. – Members of the Duke men's track & field team will travel to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 21-22 at Rector Field House.
Both days will start with field events, where redshirt
Ben Beatty will try to surpass personal records he set in the weight throw and shot put in recent weeks. He recorded a weight throw of 18.09m (59-4.25 feet) at the "Doc" Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet on Feb. 7, before winning the shot put the following week at the Tiger Paw Invitational with a mark of 18.01 (59-1.25). Both distances rank second all-time at Duke in their respective event.
Competing in the 600m for the Blue Devils will be freshman
Theo Burba and senior
Nico Coleman. Both runners set indoor PR's in the event at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Feb. 7.
Duke will feature five runners in the 3000m, including junior
AJ Eckmann and freshman
Ryan Thompson, who both set a personal-best times at the Camel City Invitational. Freshman
Chris Theodore will also line up for the 3000, taking part in his first-ever indoor event.
The weekend slate will conclude with the 4x400m relay, with Burba, senior
Nick Cox, Coleman and sophomore
Devin Connell set to compete.
