DURHAM – After earning USTFCCCA All-America status following strong performances at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships, graduate student
Lauren Hoffman, junior
Emily Cole and freshman
Chyler Turner get set to compete in the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 23-26.
Hoffman will be the first to compete, opening the three-day meet Thursday evening at 7:50 p.m. ET, with the first round of the 400m hurdles. The Haymarket, Va., native finished off an outstanding outdoor season at the national meet with another stellar performance in the finals of the 400m hurdles, clocking 55.58 to finish third overall and earn All-America First Team honors. In the semifinal just two days earlier, Hoffman smashed her own program record for the fourth time this season via a personal best of 55.47 seconds.
Second team All-Americans Turner and Cole get things going on Friday with the first rounds of the U20 100m hurdles (4:50 p.m. ET) and 3000m steeplechase (9:05 p.m. ET), respectively.
Turner ran the anchor leg of the women's 4x100m relay that finished in a season-best time of 44.04 seconds, improving their second-fastest program time in the process. The Shreveport, La., native enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign in the 100m hurdles that featured a sixth-place finish in a tightly contested race at the ACC Outdoor Championships. Her time of 13.56 seconds was a personal-best, improving her No. 5 all-time program mark and qualified her for the NCAA East Regional.
Cole had a breakout season in the 3000m steeplechase, highlighted by a record-setting performance at the conference meet that saw the Houston, Texas native deliver an incredibly gutsy performance. The junior clocked a career-best 9:48.20 to finish as the runner-up and shatter Liz Wort's 15-year-old school record, while shaving 27 seconds off her previous best. Cole ran 9:57.09 in the semifinal race at nationals, and her performance made her just the third Duke woman in program lore, and the first in 13 years to be named an All-American in the event.
Should the trio advance, Turner would be the first to compete as she would move on to Friday's 100m hurdle final set for 7:57 p.m. ET. Hoffman would compete again on Friday, June 24 at 10:04 p.m. ET in the semifinals and Saturday, June 25 at 5:51 p.m. in the final. Cole would advance to Sunday's 3000m steeplechase final scheduled for 5:23 p.m. ET.
