HIGH POINT, N.C. – Graduate student
Robbie Otal's record-setting performance in the men's discus along with top-five program marks in the women's discus and women's hammer throw were the major highlights of day two as the Duke track and field program closed out competition at the VertKlasse Meeting Saturday.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- For the third time in as many meets, graduate student Robbie Otal bested his discus throw mark from the week before. Saturday, Otal registered a season-best toss and picked up his third consecutive win in the event behind a massive throw of 62.06m (203-7 feet) on his third attempt
- Not only did Otal's effort reset the Duke school record in the event for the third time, but it also shattered the meet and facility record as well.
- Junior Moorea Mitchell turned in another standout performance in the women's hammer throw that commenced Duke's Saturday slate.
- Coming out of the gates hot, Mitchell logged a personal-best throw measuring 57.59m (188-11 feet) on her first attempt. Her throw was good for fourth place and improved her No. 3 all-time program mark.
- Senior Payton Little tallied another personal best for the third straight week – this one coming in the women's discus. Little's final throw was her most clutch and moved her up one spot to No. 4 all-time in school lore via a throw of 45.85m (150-5 feet).
- The Blue Devils also picked up a pair of first-place finishes in the men's high jump and the women's 4x400m relay.
- Senior Beau Allen attempted just two heights, grabbing his first event win of the year via a clearance of 2.10m (6-10.75 feet).
- Duke's women's 4x400m relay remained undefeated following its third win of the season as the quartet of Meredith Sims, Abby Geiser, Maddy Dietz and Amarachi Onuoha clocked 3:46.08 to finish atop the field.
